If this is your first time driving a UTV and you have some apprehensions or are even a little nervous, this is the post for you! Everyone is a first timer in the beginning, and having some concerns up front is perfectly normal.
This post will show what a UTV is, why it is easier than it looks, what happens before you ride, and how to feel confident your first time.
So, What Exactly is a UTV?
A Utility-Terrain-Vehicle (UTV), also known as a Side-By-Side (SXS), is a 4-wheel motorized off-highway and off-road vehicle designed for both recreation and work that typically has seating for 2-6 passengers. A UTV is built for stability and comfort, where you will sit in an automotive style seat with a steering wheel, gas pedal, and brake.
Much like the vehicle you drive every day. It’s designed to handle uneven terrain with ease and is designed to keep you secure and in control. A UTV may look big, flashy, and loud, but most guests will find a nice level of comfort driving within just a few minutes and realize it is actually very straightforward.
Is it Hard to Drive a UTV for Beginners?
Here is why beginners do great their very first time out. Before you ride, our Guest Experience Coordinators and store staff will explain all the controls and features for your specific UTV and answer any questions.

As you sit in the driver’s seat, you will find it very closely matches the vehicle you drive every day. If you start slow and take a little time to get comfortable, your confidence will build fast and the machine will quickly feel familiar. This isn’t about racing around and going fast. This is about enjoying your experience.
What Safety Features Should I Know About?
At Unseen Pass, safety is job 1. Before you go, we give you a full safety briefing and make sure you understand the basics. You’ll be secured with seat belts, and we’ll go over the rules that keep the ride smooth. The biggest safety secret is smooth driving: smooth throttle, slow down before turns, and keep a little space. If you do that, it feels controlled and fun. Each manufacturer designs a wide variety of safety features into their UTVs.
Additional margins for safety are integrated into and include a full steel roll cage as well as automotive style seatbelts with power steering and brakes. You will find there are many similarities to your car or truck and begin to feel comfortable early in your rental.
What to Expect on Ride Day?
So here is what your day will look like, so there are no surprises. We will also set you up with custom routes that match what you want out of your experience, and these routes are designed to dovetail with your rental time duration. Our team will escort you and your group out to the machine and proceed with the onboarding process.

This process will go through the features and controls for each machine, and we will cover all the safety rules as part of this discussion.
